HO 5 Power-Driven Woodworking Machiness

Bans the operation of most power-driven woodworking machines, including saws, stapling machines, nailing machines, and sanders


    Prohibited:

    Minors under age 18 may not perform:

  • Work involving operating or assisting to feed power-driven woodworking machines
  • Off-bearing or tailing from circular saws
  • Setting up, adjusting, repairing, oiling, or cleaning power-driven woodworking machines
  • Use of a power-driven woodworking machine used or designed to cut wood regardless of what material is being cut.
  • WHD’s long standing position is that HO 5 prohibits minors under 18 from operating chain saws.
  • Includes portable machines, battery operated machines, and pneumatic machines.
  • Permitted:

    Minors aged 16 and 17 may:

  • Perform work involving the moving of materials from one machine to another and arranging materials for another person to feed into the machine
  • Perform work in preparation for shipping and the handling and shipping of lumber products
  • Use staple machines in upholstery departments
  • Use electric, pneumatic and battery-powered screwdrivers which only tighten screws
  • This HO is subject to a limited exemption for 16- and 17- year old apprentices and student learners enrolled in an approved program.
